Frequently Asked

Questions, answered honestly.

The things patients actually ask before, during, and after seeing Mr Hussain — from booking to recovery.

Booking & Consultations

How quickly can I see Mr Hussain privately?

+
Most patients are seen within 5–10 working days at Nuffield Health Chester, Spire Macclesfield, or Circle Cheshire. When you select your preferred date on our calendar, the site shows you exactly which of those hospitals Mr Hussain is at on that day and links you straight to that hospital's booking portal — so you get the earliest possible appointment without ringing around. Urgent appointments can sometimes be arranged same-week.
Booking & Consultations

How does the booking actually work on this site?

+
This website is a guide to where and when Mr Hussain practises — it does not handle bookings or collect any patient information. When you click "Book", you are taken directly to the official portal of the hospital you have chosen (Nuffield Health, Spire Healthcare, or Circle Health Group). Your appointment, payment, and medical records are managed entirely by that hospital under their own GDPR and clinical-governance arrangements, exactly as they would be if you booked by phone.
Booking & Consultations

Do I need a GP referral to see Mr Hussain privately?

+
No. Mr Hussain accepts self-referrals for private consultations at Nuffield Chester, Spire Macclesfield, and Circle Cheshire. If you have private medical insurance, your insurer may require a GP referral letter — check your policy before booking. NHS appointments at Mid Cheshire Hospitals require a GP referral via the standard NHS pathway (Choose & Book).
Booking & Consultations

How much does a consultation cost?

+
An initial consultation with Mr Hussain is £200. Follow-up appointments are £150. These fees apply to self-paying patients; if you have private medical insurance, your policy will typically cover the consultation in full subject to your excess. Fees are paid directly to the hospital at the time of booking — this website does not process any payments. Mr Hussain is recognised by all major UK insurers including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva, Vitality, Cigna, and WPA.
Booking & Consultations

+
Mr Hussain is registered with all major UK private medical insurers: Bupa (including Bupa Global and Bupa Fee Assured), AXA Health (and AXA Global Healthcare), Aviva Health, Vitality, Cigna (and Cigna International), Aetna, Allianz Worldwide Care, WPA, The Exeter, Healix Health Services, and Benenden Health. Self-pay patients are also welcome.

Will my personal or medical details be stored on this website?

+
No. This website does not collect, store, or process any patient identifying information or medical data. When you book, you are redirected to the hospital's own portal where they handle everything under their own data-protection arrangements. The only data this site retains is anonymous analytics about which pages are visited, used to improve the site.
Hernia Surgery

What types of hernia does Mr Hussain treat?

+
Mr Hussain treats every type of abdominal wall hernia: inguinal (groin), femoral, umbilical (belly-button), incisional (through a previous scar), epigastric, Spigelian, and sports hernias. He also performs complex abdominal wall reconstruction for large or recurrent hernias, including component-separation techniques. Both laparoscopic (keyhole) and open approaches are offered, including mesh-free options.
Hernia Surgery

Will I need mesh for my hernia repair?

+
It depends on the type and size of your hernia. Mesh reduces recurrence rates significantly for most hernias, which is why it is the international standard. However, Mr Hussain also offers no-mesh techniques (such as the Shouldice or Desarda repair) for patients who prefer to avoid mesh. He will discuss the evidence, benefits, and risks of each option openly so you can make an informed choice.
Hernia Surgery

How long is recovery after hernia surgery?

+
Most patients go home the same day. You can resume light activity and desk-based work within 7–14 days. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4–6 weeks. Laparoscopic repairs typically allow a faster return to normal activity than open surgery. Mr Hussain will provide a personalised recovery plan based on your job and lifestyle.
Colorectal Conditions

What happens at a haemorrhoid consultation?

+
Mr Hussain will take a detailed history, examine you privately in a dignified manner, and may perform a brief proctoscopy in clinic. He will then explain your grade of haemorrhoids and walk you through every treatment option — from lifestyle changes and creams, through banding and HALO/THD procedures, to surgical haemorrhoidectomy. Most patients only need outpatient treatment.
Colorectal Conditions

Is anal fissure surgery painful, and does it really work?

+
Patient reviews consistently describe anal fissure surgery as life-changing. The most common procedure — lateral internal sphincterotomy — is performed under general anaesthetic, takes about 15 minutes, and most patients go home the same day. Pain settles substantially within 48–72 hours. Success rates exceed 95% for chronic fissures that have failed medical therapy. Botox is also offered as a less invasive option.
Colorectal Conditions

Should I be worried about rectal bleeding?

+
Most rectal bleeding is caused by benign conditions like haemorrhoids or anal fissures, but it can occasionally be the first sign of bowel cancer. Any rectal bleeding lasting more than two weeks, bleeding mixed with the stool, bleeding with a change in bowel habit, or any bleeding in someone over 50 should be assessed promptly. Mr Hussain offers rapid private assessment, including colonoscopy when needed.
Colonoscopy & Investigation

Is a private colonoscopy painful?

+
No. All colonoscopies under Mr Hussain are performed with sedation and pain relief, and most patients describe the experience as comfortable. You may feel mild abdominal pressure when the bowel is gently inflated. The procedure takes 20–30 minutes and you go home the same day. You will not be able to drive afterwards, so please arrange a lift home.
Colonoscopy & Investigation

How do I prepare for a colonoscopy?

+
Bowel preparation is essential for a clear examination. You will be given specific dietary instructions for the 24–48 hours before your procedure, and a bowel-cleansing solution to drink. Detailed written instructions are provided at your pre-procedure consultation, and the clinic team is available by phone if you have any questions during preparation.
Cancer Care

What is TaTME, and why is it different?

+
TaTME (Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision) is an advanced surgical technique for low rectal cancer that approaches the tumour partly through the anus, giving the surgeon better access to the very low rectum and improving the chances of complete cancer clearance and preservation of bowel function. Mr Hussain trained in TaTME in Bordeaux, France, in 2017 — one of relatively few UK surgeons formally trained in the technique.
Cancer Care

How quickly can I be seen for suspected bowel cancer?

+
Suspected bowel cancer is treated as urgent. Mr Hussain offers private assessment, usually within 48 hours of contact, including same-week colonoscopy when needed. If a cancer is confirmed, you will be discussed at a colorectal multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting and treatment can typically begin within 2–3 weeks — substantially faster than current NHS pathways in many regions.

+

How does the multi-clinic calendar work?

+
When you pick a date on our booking page, the calendar instantly shows which of the three private hospitals Mr Hussain is working at that day — Nuffield Chester, Spire Macclesfield, or Circle Cheshire — along with his hours at each. Click "Book" and you are taken directly to that hospital's own booking portal, where you complete the booking with them. We never see your personal details — the hospitals handle that as they always have. The calendar is updated whenever Mr Hussain's working pattern changes, so what you see is always current.
